Hello. Me again. I wanted to write this series review to just share my thoughts and opinions on this contemporary book series by Zoe Sugg. I usually don't read younger YA contemporaries (especially if they are on the cheesy side), but I wanted to give the story a try. I don't think it was anything groundbreaking or phenomenal, but I can say that I enjoyed it. I flew through these and did have some fun along the way. Though the plots were predictable, I enjoyed that the story because it covered many different issues (though love was always the top priority). One little aspect that bothers me is that the writing seems like the characters (who are 16/17) are way younger than they actually are. It's almost as if it's from the point of view of a girl who's thirteen, but I guess that is the age demographic, so I can't nitpick too much. Alright, here we go.
<SPOILERS AHEAD (DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE WHOLE SERIES)>
I think one of the few saving graces of the series was Elliot (though he is a gay stereotype) because of his sass and how much he cared for Penny and their friendship. I thought Noah was nice, but my opinion of him slowly dropped as the books went on; his character became jealous and controlling and flaky. He did apologize sincerely, so I don't exactly hate him, but the title of the last book was GOING SOLO, and Penny really didn't go solo and let Noah go. She just got back together with him after a couple chapters. I really was hoping Megan would turn around and learn her lesson but nooooo; she only received a little redemption arc at the end. Posie was nice (and she does have the same last name as me), but I didn't feel very attached to her (it's always sweet to see the good person prevail in the end, though). Penny was kind and endearing and pretty relatable, but it seemed that at times, she was trying TOO hard to be relatable (aka her tripping that magically happens every time someone cute is in her path). DON'T GET ME STARTED ON CALLUM. He was so boring and weird (in like an ominous, no-nonsense way). Nonono. The parents and Tom were nice, and they seem to kind of have the perfect family (totally not jealous). I felt like Alex wasn't super well-developed, but him and Elliot were probably my favorite ship.
In general, the plotline was fun for all the books, but I probably wouldn't reread these.
